Planning your trip right now? That’s such a good feeling haha. I hope you have an amazing time here, and that your only commitment is to be happy. No pressure to see the entire island in just a few days.
The goal of this guide is simple: help you truly enjoy your time in Florianópolis without turning your vacation into a tourist marathon where you go back home more tired than when you arrived. Haha.
Honestly, if it were my first time in Floripa, I would choose a strategic place to stay. The island looks small on the map… but during high season, going from the south to the north (or the other way around) can easily turn into a little adventure.
Not impossible. But you’ll be trading the beach, a cold drink, snacks, jumping in and out of the ocean, and working on your tan… for traffic.
Yeah… not worth it. 😂

What people dream about when coming to Floripa
Everyone wants to visit the famous Barra da Lagoa or the stunning Campeche Island.
And yes, both absolutely live up to the hype. It’s pure tropical Brazil at its finest.
But both require some planning.
If you manage to visit one of them on your first trip, perfect. If not, that’s totally fine too, this island has so many incredible places to explore.
Wake up early and watch the sunrise
During the day, it’s simple: beach.
And the earlier, the better.
In the afternoon, it’s common to get some rain or cloudy weather. If you want that perfect sunny day, bring breakfast to the beach and watch the sunrise in style, with friends, family, your partner, or even by yourself.
I personally go alone all the time.
There are many things in life I do solo, and being alone has never stopped me from living fully.
Where to stay in Florianópolis?
It really depends on your travel style.
For nightlife and energy
Lagoa da Conceição.
(Although the south has some great spots too, okay? haha.)
For a chill but lively vibe
North of the island:
- Jurerê Internacional
- Canasvieiras
South of the island:
- Campeche Beach (more rustic and peaceful, but the ocean can be strong, sometimes better for surfers 😅)

City center & mainland
On the mainland, Coqueiros has an amazing vibe, great restaurants by the sea and a more local feel.
And of course, in downtown Florianópolis, you can’t miss the city’s postcard: Hercílio Luz Bridge.
No one comes here without taking a photo there. haha
For families & calm waters
- Canasvieiras
- Daniela Beach
- Cachoeira do Bom Jesus
For a more upscale experience 😎
Jurerê Internacional.
Obviously. haha
Good value & structure
- Ingleses Beach
Surf, nature & dunes
- Praia Mole
- Joaquina Beach
Peace, nature & local vibes
- Matadeiro
- Armação Beach (my favorite)
- Santinho Beach (north side)
(But during high season… “peaceful” is a relative concept anywhere on the island 😂)

A perfect place for a slow afternoon
If I could suggest just one plan for the late afternoon, it would be:
Santo Antônio de Lisboa or Ribeirão da Ilha
Charming neighborhoods full of history, colorful architecture, seaside restaurants, and a strong Azorean heritage that instantly slows you down.
Perfect to eat something good, grab a cold drink, and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island. No rush. Just living.
My favorite post-beach spots
Also, always check if there’s a festival happening, Floripa has a great cultural scene, with lots of free events, DJs, and live music throughout the year.
Nearby places worth visiting
If you have extra days, explore around:
- Guarda do Embaú – surfer’s paradise with stunning nature
- Praia do Rosa – young, charming, full of unique guesthouses
- Balneário Camboriú – skyscrapers, nightlife, urban beach
- Bombinhas – crystal-clear waters and great for snorkeling/diving
- Penha – home of Beto Carrero World
If you made it this far, I hope you’re doing well.
With your family, your health, physically, mentally, and financially.
I hope this trip becomes something truly special.
And if you’re still just planning a future trip, which is also amazing, I hope these tips help you at some point.
And if not… well, that’s life haha.
At the end of the day, what really matters is enjoying each moment — whether you’re traveling or just dreaming about your next destination.
Be happy.

Because happiness is serious business. 🫰
