Horseback Riding in Florianopolis: My Moçambique Beach Experience

I never know what my next adventure is going to be, and this time, I ended up on a trip that impacted me way more than I ever imagined.

It all started when my feed got completely flooded with photos and videos of my friends enjoying the famous countryside festivals in Goiás.

Then this thought popped into my head: “Wait… what if I mixed the ocean breeze, the charm of country life, and a horseback ride?” The result? A top-tier combo. 😮‍💨🐎

That’s how I decided to go horseback riding in Florianopolis. And let me tell you, it was one of the most unique and delightful experiences I’ve had lately.

Before I forget, hit play on the soundtrack for this post and come join me on another epic journey. Just click on the image! 🎵

What Horseback Riding at Moçambique Beach is Like

I’ll admit I arrived a little skittish, haha. Even though I’ve always thought horses are beautiful animals, I didn’t have much riding experience. But it only took a few minutes for my insecurity to completely melt away.

Even before heading out, the instructors make everyone feel super comfortable interacting with the animals. You can watch the horses, pet them, and establish that first contact. In fact, the instructors usually choose the horse that best matches each person’s vibe during this moment.

My partner in crime was a horse named Saara such a sweetheart. Right from the start, I felt like I was in good hands… or rather, good hooves, haha.

As the ride goes on, you gain confidence and realize that the horses already know the trail better than anyone. Just follow the team’s guidance, and you’re golden.

The Route: Trails, Dunes, and Beach

The ride is done in a group and kicks off on a trail surrounded by pure nature. At several points, we passed through sand dunes, pine trees, and landscapes that looked straight out of a movie.

The combination of native greenery, the sound of the wind merging with the ocean, and the peacefulness of the horses turns the ride into something way more magical than just a regular trail ride.

Then, we finally reached the incredible Moçambique Beach, located on the east side of Santa Catarina Island. For those who don’t know, it has the longest stretch of sand in Florianopolis and is famous precisely for preserving a wild, untouched atmosphere.

Seeing that endless horizon while mounted on a horse is a feeling that’s hard to put into words. Maybe because it’s one of those deeply personal experiences that everyone lives and interprets in their own unique way.

For me, it was a mix of being present, connecting, and really paying attention to what was happening around me. No rush to get anywhere, just taking in the scenery, listening to the crashing waves, and feeling the steady, peaceful rhythm of the ride.

Thinking about it, the life I live is built by the places I visit, the people I meet, and the stories I choose to experience. Every new adventure adds a little piece to my life’s puzzle.

Even if it’s just for a few hours, stepping out of your routine has the power to open new doors, create memories, and shift the way we look at life.

Can Kids Join?

Yes! Children up to 4 years old can ride along with their parents on the same horse. From age 5 and up, they can ride on their own on horses equipped with kid-specific saddles.

This makes the tour a fantastic option for families looking for unique activities to do in Florianopolis.

At the time I’m writing this, the investment for the daily beach ride is R$ 150.00 per person. Since prices can change over time, it’s worth double-checking directly with the team before making your reservation.

How Long Does It Last?

The experience lasts between 2 hours and 2 hours and 30 minutes. Time flies so fast that by the time you realize it, the ride is already coming to an end.

What to Wear for the Ride?

My recommendations are:

  • Comfortable clothes;
  • Closed-toe shoes (sneakers/boots);
  • A cap or hat;
  • Sunscreen;
  • A water bottle in a small backpack (and hit the restroom before leaving, haha!).

And of course, pick an outfit that matches your style, haha, because the photos turn out absolutely incredible. 😌😂

Departure Times

The tours leave at:

  • 8:00 AM &
  • 3:00 PM

The rides operate from Wednesday to Monday. They are closed on Tuesdays.

Fun Fact About Horses

Did you know that horses can sense human emotions through body language and tone of voice? Because of this, the calmer and more confident you are, the more comfortable the animal tends to be during the interaction.

Maybe that explains why, after the first few minutes, the connection between horse and rider happens so naturally.
